Dr. Joseph McMullen, DDS, MD is a fourth generation Nevadan.  He graduated from Reno High School in 1968, and went on to study at  University of Colorado and University of Nevada Reno. Dr. McMullen received his DDS from the University of Pacific School of Dentistry in 1971. He attended Vanderbilt Medical School, where he completed his medical degree, as well as a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  

Dr. McMullen  returned to Reno in 1979 and started his private practice. He has been a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon since 1982. Dr. McMullen recently retired after practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for 39 years.  He was the first double degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Reno, with a dental degree and a medical degree.  His training allowed him to do extensive orthognathic surgery, facial trauma, TMJ surgery, bone grafting to alveolar clefts for cleft lip and palate patients, facial reconstruction, and head and neck pathology in a hospital setting. His in-office surgeries included removal of wisdom teeth, dentoalveolar surgery, extensive dental implant surgery,  oral pathology, and administration of deep IV sedation.
Dr. McMullen is a member of the American Medical Association, Nevada Medical Association, Washoe County Medical Society, American Dental Association, Nevada Dental Association, Northern Nevada Dental Society, and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
